Sex After Pregnancy-Bonding Once Again

You may not feel like having sex after pregnancy. There are many reasons for this. However, your doctor too will advise you not to have sex immediately after pregnancy. This may take two to six weeks or until your bleeding (lochia) stops. If you have had a caesarian delivery, your body parts need to heal. So here again, sex becomes difficult immediately after pregnancy.

The Reasons Why You May Not Enjoy Sex after Pregnancy

  • You may feel fatigued and tired.

  • Your stitches need healing

  • There is reduced natural lubrication for at least eight to ten weeks after delivery.

  • You may feel undesirable

  • You may be anxious about your new life with your baby. Your baby may cry a lot, causing distraction.

  • You may fear the thought of getting pregnant again, which is quite true, unless you use some form of contraceptives.

When Should You Have Sex after Pregnancy?

With the Doctor’s recommendation, you should have sex at least six weeks after pregnancy and not before that. By this time, your body has healed considerably and menstruation becomes regular. You should talk to your doctor about contraception. He will advise you not to take contraceptive pills with estrogen in them, as they decrease your milk supply. Progesterone only pills may also not be safe. In this situation, condoms are a wise decision.

The Benefits of Sex after Pregnancy

At this stage of post pregnancy, you and your partner should understand each other’s feelings and resume sex only if your feel emotionally and physically ready for sex. However, we would like to mention here, that sex after pregnancy does have its benefits. During sex, hormones are released, which enable the uterus to get back to its normal shape. Not just that, you and your partner will bond together once again, physically and emotionally.

We wish you a happy and safe pregnancy and may you enjoy lots of love, happiness and sex after pregnancy.
